How First Breath Data Is Helping Shape Public Health Research
First Breath Featured in New Peer-Reviewed Study on Prenatal Cannabis Use
We’re proud to share that data from Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation’s (WWHF) First Breath program helped inform a newly published peer-reviewed study on prenatal cannabis use. The paper, led by WWHF’s former programs director, Dr Kristine Alaniz, centers on the lived experiences of low-income birthing people in Wisconsin. It specifically highlights how emotional regulation and mental health are key drivers behind prenatal cannabis use.
Our current program director and a co-author of the paper, Tessa Vance, reflected on the deep expertise behind First Breath and our commitment to evidence-based, compassionate care:
“We’re grateful to the First Breath participants who shared their experiences and helped strengthen the evidence needed to support healthier pregnancies and families.”
~Tessa Vance
The results of this research reinforce what we see every day: supporting families means supporting whole-person health, which includes mental health.
It’s clear that when we listen to individuals’ lived experiences, we can build better systems of care.
