Breastfeeding Resources 2026

Breastfeeding Resources

For #WorldBreastfeedingWeek, we’re sharing resources and explaining why access to lactation resources for every Wisconsin family matters more than ever.

Increasing Breastfeeding Support

Did you know:

“Non-Hispanic Black infants in Wisconsin are three times more likely to die before their first birthday than non-Hispanic white infants.”

This statistic should stop us all in our tracks.

For #WorldBreastfeedingWeek, we’re highlighting why breastfeeding support is a health equity issue and why access to lactation resources for every Wisconsin family matters more than ever.

We also know that breastfeeding isn’t possible or the right choice for every mother and baby (and that’s OK). There is no shame in how one feeds their child.

What matters is that every family has access to the information, support and resources they need to make the best decision for them.

Breastfeeding and human milk provide significant short and long-term health benefits for babies!

Breastfeeding has a major impact on population health outcomes. It reduces infant risk of gastrointestinal and respiratory tract infections, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), asthma, obesity, diabetes, and celiac disease. It also lowers the lactating person’s risk of various chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and breast and ovarian cancers. Initiation of breastfeeding is associated with reduced infant mortality. That’s why public health experts consider it one of the most important things a mother can do for her child’s health.
