Adult Vaccines

Staying up-to-date with vaccinations isn’t just for children – it’s essential for adults too.

Why Adult Vaccination Matters & Resources

The Vaccines for Adults Program (VFA) plays a crucial role in ensuring that adults across the state have access to necessary vaccines to protect against preventable diseases.

The Vaccines for Adults Program in Wisconsin is a statewide initiative aimed at increasing immunization rates among adults. It offers a variety of vaccines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for adults, including pneumococcal disease, tetanus, hepatitis and others depending on individual health needs.

The program ensures vaccines are readily available through healthcare providers, pharmacies and public health clinics across Wisconsin and helps to make vaccines affordable for adults who may be uninsured or underinsured by providing vaccines at low or no cost through certain healthcare providers and public health clinics.

Vaccinations available through VFA:
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
  • Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR)
  • Meningococcal
  • Pneumococcal disease
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap)
  • Tetanus and diphtheria (Td)
  • Varicella (chickenpox)

Why Adult Vaccinations Matter

Vaccinations play a critical role in maintaining individual health and preventing the spread of disease within communities. Vaccines can prevent serious illnesses, complications and even deaths from vaccine-preventable diseases for adults.

By increasing adult vaccination rates, the VFA program contributes to healthier communities across Wisconsin. It reduces the burden on healthcare systems, minimizes absenteeism at work and helps protect vulnerable populations who may be more susceptible to vaccine-preventable diseases.

Make sure you and your loved ones are up-to-date with recommended vaccinations. Talk to your healthcare provider to determine which vaccines you need based on your age, health status and other factors. By staying informed and proactive about your health, you contribute to a safer and healthier Wisconsin.
