WWHF Commitment to Anti-Racism

Racism has no place in our communities or at the Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation (WWHF). We stand with our fellow black employees, board members, participants, and partners. We stand united against violence, discrimination, and injustice. We will continue to listen and look at new ways to improve as we work toward inclusion and addressing socioeconomic disparities. Our shared values will lead us forward: health equity, respect, compassion, and humanity.
What we’re doing to address racial and socioeconomic disparities:
    • Wellness for all – providing free virtual health services to all Wisconsin women.
    • Increasing access to health and social services and resources through 3 statewide programs: Well Badger Resource Center, GrapeVine, and First Breath.
    • Improving our programs though community engagement and decision-making via virtual Participant Advisory Groups.
    • Proactively addressing barriers to care and social determinants of health with community and individual services that are available via phone, text, e-mail, and video chat.
    • Providing screening and referrals for the non-medical factors influencing women’s health (i.e. poverty, urban vs. rural residence, housing insecurity, social support, health literacy, employment).
    • Increasing representation of non-white and non-English speaking individuals by hiring diverse staff and partnering with program providers from diverse groups.
    • Translating program materials and making interpreter/translation services available for use.
    • Ensuring staff and partners are engaged in ongoing training opportunities to address and reduce health disparities ( i.e. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), Trauma-Informed Care (TIC), mental health, social determinants of health, substance use).

What’s next: In addition to continuing these efforts, we know there’s still plenty of learning and work to do. For starters, we are also taking thoughtful action towards sustained change by:
    • Creating a racial literacy self-study group and platform for WWHF staff.
    • Participating in an upcoming staff training on accountability and equity through dignity.
