In 2018, the WWHF was awarded a $10,000 grant from Friends of UW Health to support our First Breath program. Specifically, the grant helped us cover the costs of launching a new referral model, which has assisted in increasing our reach in the community and more effectively serving pregnant and postpartum women in Wisconsin with personalized, evidence-based tobacco treatment services. (View our 2018 Annual report.)
“Our First Breath perinatal smoking cessation program is now reaching more families and UW patients,” says WWHF’s Operations Director, Lisette Khalil. “After months of collaboration with both UW and our partners at Redox, we are now able to receive First Breath referrals directly from patients’ electronic medical records. This improved efficiency allows us to contact patients more quickly, which is critical when parents are ready to quit smoking and working to stay smoke-free.”
Moving away from paper referral forms to an e-referral in the UW medical record will continue to assure that more families access the specialized smoking cessation help offered by First Breath, and that more babies have the potential to grow up in smoke-free homes. Thank you, Friends of UW Health for making it possible!
