Safely Enjoying Wisconsin Summer

In Wisconsin, we relish every sun-soaked minute of Summer, and rightfully so. Have you seen our Winters?? We’ve earned these months!
But with all the summer fun, festivals, days on the lake, etc. it’s also important to be safe. Below you’ll find some simple tips for you and your family about heat, food, and water safety to keep you healthy while you enjoy all that Summer has to offer:
HEAT SAFETY
Did you know you can get sick from the heat and sun even on mild days? Learn to recognize and treat different heat and sun-related illnesses like heat rash, sunburn, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke with this handout from the CDC. You can also take steps to prevent heat-related illness in the first place! Stay informed, cool, and hydrated when you’re out and about. We’ll even help you out! For a limited time, donate $25 to the Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation, and get a WWHF branded 20 oz. stainless steel water bottle to help you stay cool!
FOOD SAFETY
A great backyard barbecue is a summer staple. Enjoy a delicious AND safe cookout by brushing up on these food safety tips from the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (And while you’re there, check out recipes for vegetarian cookout ideas, fun recipes, and more!):

WATER SAFETY
A day on the lake, an afternoon by the pool – it’s what we dream of during those cold Wisconsin Winters! Follow pool rules and swimming tips to keep everyone safe while they’re having fun. Drowning can happen in seconds, and is a leading cause of death for children in the United States.
