Emily’s Story

Hello! My name is Emily. I live in Wisconsin with my wonderful husband and my 6-month-old healthy baby named Elliot. I was a smoker since I was 16 years old! I decided to quit last year when I found out I was pregnant with my first child. My husband and I have been trying for years but were unsuccessful until this point. We were ecstatic but knew the health risks he could face if I didn’t quit smoking. He was my reason to quit and stay smoke-free.

When I decided to quit, I did not only find out that I was pregnant, but a pandemic just started. Luckily, my baby didn’t let anything stand in my way. I signed up for a quit coach and worked with her to get me smoke free and fast.

What helped me quit is talking to a quit coach, trying to keep a friend near me where I would smoke, find something to keep my mind and hands busy and remember why I was quitting in the first place, my baby.

I noticed immediately not smelling like cigarettes every second and after you quit for a couple weeks, you begin to smell even a hint of cigarette (and it doesn’t smell good). I can breathe better, I don’t see that daily gas station charge on my bank statements, and I just feel better in general. My advice to others is to just quit. Your life is more important than a cancer stick. Save up your money and go do something nice for yourself. You got this!
