I Came to Cut Back. I Left Smoke-Free

I joined this program [First Breath] thinking it would help me reduce the use of cigarettes, I never thought I would have completely stopped smoking cigarettes because I didn’t think I would have enough time. I had plenty of time and I am so happy I joined.

It was hard, but I put my mind and dedication towards becoming healthier. Also, if it wasn’t for Lategra [First Breath health educator] checking in on me, giving me advice and strategies to quit, I probably would still be smoking cigarettes. She was so helpful with any resources I needed.

The one strategy that really helped me stop smoking was I gave myself a certain amount of cigarettes I can smoke a day and try not to smoke more than that limit. If for some reason I did go over, I would try to discipline myself by giving myself less the following day. My advice to anyone that wants to stop smoking, drinking or any other drugs is you can do it if you really want to stop. Take it one day at a time — never give up.
